Structural design in open ocean, back bay, estuarine and inlet environments

The design of wave barriers (also called wave breaks or fences) to provide vessel and/or shoreline protection, requires an appreciation of the wave activity at the site.  In this photo, wave energy is transmitted through the structure from the face toward us but interrupted from the long face to the right.

OCC's engineers fine-tune the structure to reduce wave energy in the lee of the structure while allowing water circulation and minimizing environmental disturbance.  Another aspect of structural design includes the geotechnical strength of the foundation which is particularly important for a pile supported structure.

OCC also designs gravity structures such as rubble mound breakwaters and sand-filled geotextile tubes depending on the needs of the project.
